A long message to share terrible news. On Monday, December 20, Welsh Ospreys hooker Ifan Phillips announced that he had been amputated above the knee of his right leg after a motorcycle accident he suffered two weeks earlier.

“I had emergency surgery as soon as I arrived, but it was not possible to save my leg, and I had to have an amputation”, the 25-year-old wrote on Instagram. “I would like to thank everyone who rescued me at the scene of the accident, the emergency services and all the staff at Morriston Hospital. You have been wonderful.”, he continued.

Ifan Phillips started a fundraiser to support him during his recovery, raise funds for his rehabilitation, and try to get a prosthetic leg. He has already collected 60,000 pounds (around 70,000 euros).

Son of former Welsh international Kevin Phillips, Ifan Phillips has played 40 games with the Ospreys since his debut in 2017. His last appearance was on October 16, in the United Rugby Championship, against Benetton Trevise.
