The number of respiratory infections is jumping in cities and in hospitals. Many establishments have relaunched the compulsory wearing of masks for caregivers, such as in Orléans, in Loiret.

It is one of the hospitals in France which has reintroduced the compulsory wearing of masks. In Orléans (Loiret), as soon as you pass through the doors of a department, caregivers in contact with patients must wear it, even for a simple blood pressure check. A precaution well received by patients. Covid, flu, bronchiolitis… The arrival of the winter period and its respiratory infections has increased the level of precaution. Measures that put a little more strain on the daily lives of nurses. “There is a whole non-language that we cannot express with these masks. We are aware that we must wear it to protect ourselves and our very fragile patients”explains Anne-Laure Delware, nurse.

Hospital prepares for surge in respiratory infections

With 33.8 cases of Covid per 100,000 inhabitants, the situation in Center-Val de Loire is not alarming, but the hospital is preparing. “The highest stadium will be obligatory for everyone, everywhere, all the time, including in administrative areas and for visitors”, indicates Dr Maryvonne Demasure, head of the infectious risk prevention department. In the hall, patients’ relatives welcome the initiative. Many families say they are ready to wear a mask in the hospital as soon as necessary.
