Thursday April 7, the emergencies of the hospital of Orleans, in the Loiret, refuse certain patients. Many caregivers are on sick leave, exhausted by the workload.
Patients who went to the emergency room of the regional hospital center (CHR) of Orléans (Loiret), Thursday, April 7, were forced to turn back, because the establishment only treats vital emergencies. Indeed, almost all of the hospital’s nurses and orderlies have been on sick leave for several days. They denounce unbearable working conditions. “We had become machines, doing a given job. We were completely dehumanized”says Marie Lefrançois, night nurse at the CHRO.
Since September 2021, 150 beds have been closed at the CHR, causing daily emergency room overcrowding and exhausted medical staff. “This suffering is explained by very degraded conditions of care for our patients who wait three, four days on stretchers”explains Matthieu Lacroix, emergency doctor.
