The organizers of the Cannes Film Festival and parallel sections opened the door to dialogue with cinema workers threatening to strike on Tuesday May 7, one week before the opening of the biggest event in the 7th art. “The Cannes Festival, the Filmmakers’ Fortnight, the Critics’ Week and the ACID would like to emphasize that they are aware of the difficulties encountered by some of their staff who, following different contracts for film festivals, are affected by the reform of unemployment insurance, and must face a reduction in their benefits“, they emphasize in a press release.

A response to the press release from the collective Under the screens la dèche which called for a strike on Monday “of all employees of the Cannes Film Festival and parallel sections”. This extremely rare call does not call into question the opening or holding of the festival, but could “disrupt the event“, indicated one of its spokespersons.

“We want solutions to be found”

Faced with this situation, we hope that solutions will be found, and are ready to put in place lasting conditions for dialogue to support them.”, underline the organizers. These latter recommend “to bring together around the table all the festivals concerned, the institutions and the social partners“.
