Friday April 12, the Orenburg region, in the south of Russia, experienced historic floods. The Urals reach a record level due to melting snow and heavy rains.
In Orenburg (Russia), only the roofs of houses protrude above the water, Friday April 12. In southern Russia, the Ural River continues to rise, well beyond its record level. More than 11,000 homes were flooded in the region. To quell the anger, Moscow broadcasts images of rescuers and of Vladimir Putin monitoring the situation by videoconference. The Russian president does not plan to visit the site.
Nearly 100,000 people evacuated in Kazakhstan
The inhabitants are still in the unknown. “At the moment they said they would give 200 euros per person”, indicates a woman. These historic floods were caused by rapid melting of snow, accentuated by heavy rains, and are expected to continue for several weeks. They affect a region straddling Russia and Kazakhstan. In this country, nearly 100,000 people had to be evacuated. The damage there is considerable.
