(Ottawa) The Governor General announced on Wednesday 135 new appointments to the Order of Canada, including two Companions, 39 Officers, one Honorary Member and 93 Members.
Writer Yann Martel and Senator Murray Sinclair are the new Companions of the Order of Canada.
Mr. Martel is honored for his contribution to literature and for his philanthropic work, while Mr. Sinclair is recognized for his defense of Indigenous legal issues and for his dedication to reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous populations in Canada.
Quebec researchers Carl-Éric Aubin, Roderick R. McInnes and Jacques Yves Montplaisir are on the list of 39 Officers, along with four other Quebecers, Neil Bissoondath, Tomson Highway, Louise Trottier and Ian Tamblyn for their cultural contribution.
Three well-known Quebec personalities, host Marc Labrèche, musician Yves Lambert and former Olympic athlete Bruny Surin, are on the list of 93 new Members of the Order of Canada.
Recipients will be invited to receive their insignia from Governor General Mary Simon at ceremonies to be held on later dates.
