Storms are now threatening departments from Landes to the Ardennes. Météo France extended its orange alert on Saturday, June 29, from 25 to 31 departments, according to a bulletin published at 6 a.m. Cantal, Aveyron, Lot, Tarn, Cher and Allier were added to the list published the day before. Namely: Landes, Gironde, Charente-Maritime, Charente, Deux-Sèvres, Vienne, Cher, Nièvre, Yonne, Côte-d’Or, Saône-et-Loire, Jura, Doubs, Haute-Saône, Haute-Marne, Aube, Marne, Meuse, Ardennes, Moselle, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Bas-Rhin, Vosges, Haut-Rhin and Territoire de Belfort.

Saturday morning, “strong storms affect the regions from Landes to Poitou. They are mainly accompanied by heavy rain, and locally by hail. The cumulative rainfall over a few hours can reach 50 to 80mm”, explains Météo France. In the afternoon and evening, “a thunderstorm will move from the southwest to the northeast of the country.”

In Occitanie and Auvergne, Météo France “expects in particular high rainfall intensities of 20 to 30 mm/h, which could lead to accumulations locally exceeding 50 millimeters during the episode” and also “some small to medium-sized hail, as well as wind gusts that could locally exceed 80km/h.”

According to this same source, the storms “will be particularly virulent” in the Grand-Est, with cumulative rainfall of up to “50 to 80 millimeters in a short time” and of “very strong gusts of wind” and some “big hail”.
