France is at the top of the European ranking for the number of centenarians according to INED. What are the secrets of such longevity?
A waltz at 100 years old for elders who talk about what has changed between their youth and today. The way of loving oneself, the freedom of women or even the relationship with the passing of time. Albert and Germaine, aged 98 and 92 respectively, have just celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary with 70 years of marriage. “Love is like the fireplace, you always have to keep a little ember”, says Albert.
Good living, Thérèse is the mother of three children, grandmother of five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. If, according to her, she was lucky with her husband, she did indeed know battered women. The almost centenarian admits to having been a feminist before her time. For her, women in the 1950s were no more free than they are now.
At 93, Pierre continues to question his times. This former business leader hopes to have left his mark. “We stay alive the most when we continue to be curious”, reveals the retiree. Among these centenarians at the twilight of their existence, very few are frightened by the end of their lives.
