(Ottawa) Opposition MPs are preparing to examine upcoming federal aid packages related to the pandemic and to question Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland on several economic topics.
The 12 members of the finance committee will meet on Monday to elect a chair and study a federal aid bill before a final vote due before the holiday break in two weeks.
In return for a quick review, the Liberals agreed that Mr.me Freeland be questioned for at least two hours by the committee.
Opposition elected officials will have the opportunity to ask questions of Mr.me Freeland on various domestic economic issues and the federal government’s responses to the pandemic.
NDP finance critic Daniel Blaikie plans to ask Mr.me Freeland how to prevent low-income families from suffering cuts in the Canada Child Benefit or the Guaranteed Income Supplement after receiving the Canada Emergency Benefit or one of the three federal stimulus benefits.
The NDP also wants to raise the case of the thousands of Canadians who cannot receive assistance.
