New success for Oppenheimer, half disappointment for Barbie, and brilliance for Anatomy of a fall: the nominations for the Oscars highlighted highly anticipated films on Tuesday, while reserving a few surprises.

Already crowned with five Golden Globes, Oppenheimer, portrait of the father of the atomic bomb directed by Christopher Nolan, confirmed its strong position with 13 nominations for the Oscars, which will be held on March 10 in Hollywood.
The summer blockbuster hits hard in the acting categories: Cillian Murphy, who plays Robert Oppenheimer consumed by the devastating consequences of his creation, is nominated, as expected, in the best actor category.
Actor Robert Downey Jr., who shines as a conservative bureaucrat more concerned with the removal of a communist-minded Oppenheimer than with the intricacies of quantum physics, and Emily Blunt, who plays the inventor’s wife, are all both nominated in the categories of Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress.
Another counterpart of the famous “Barbenheimer” duo, barbie has for its part accumulated 8 nominations for the Oscars ceremony. But Greta Gerwig is notably absent in the category of best director, just like Margot Robbie, star as a perfect doll plagued by morbid thoughts, in that of best actress.
His sidekick Ryan Gosling, remarkable as Ken seduced by the sirens of the patriarchy, is nominated in the category of best actor in a supporting role, just like America Ferrera for that of best actress in a supporting role.
Anatomy of‘a success
On the surprise side, the French film Anatomy of a fall, Palme d’Or at Cannes, won 5 nominations, a success all the more decisive as the film was not chosen by France to compete for the Oscar for best international film.
Justine Triet’s feature film is nominated in the prestigious categories of best film and best director, but also for the Oscar for best actress, with Sandra Hüller – also starring in another serious contender, The area of interest –, for best original screenplay and best editing.
The film was snubbed in favor of The passion of Dodin Bouffant to represent France, a choice which caused controversy and which now sounds like a failure given its non-selection by the Academy of Oscars.
“It’s absolutely obvious that we didn’t send the right film to the Oscars,” Charles Gillibert, one of the members of the commission responsible for this decision, told AFP before the nominations were announced.
Other acclaimed films: the zany Poor Creatures by Yorgos Lanthimos, already awarded at the Venice Film Festival, and Martin Scorsese’s historical fresco on the assassinations of Indigenous people in Oklahoma at the beginning of the 20th centurye century, Killers of the Flower Mooneach have 11 and 10 nominations.
Emma Stone, with her feminine Frankenstein character in Poor creatures, is thus nominated in the category of best actress alongside Lily Gladstone, a Native enriched by oil and faced with a series of murders within her tribe in Killers of the Flower Moon.
The 96e The Oscars ceremony will take place on March 10, after a year marked by the historic strike of Hollywood actors and screenwriters.
