[Opinion] The lame duck | The duty

A Quebec media has just told us that “Nemaska Lithium obtains $80 million from the Quebec State”. It was in 2015 that we first heard about this company, one of whose two shareholders then represented a Chinese company located in the Netherlands. Then, in 2019, The duty of April 30 informed us that Nemaska needed $375 million to compensate for the cost overruns caused by the construction work of its Shawinigan lithium mine and processing plant project.

Previously, the Quebec government had paid $130 million into this project, the cost of which was estimated at $1.1 billion. Then, in the fall of the same year, the State sold the company, of which it had become the sole owner, to a company residing in the island of Guernsey, a tax haven. Since 2015, various investors have exchanged ownership, without however investing the amounts planned. It seems that only the Quebec state is responsible for paying the pots. As a shareholder and then financial supporter of Nemaska, shouldn’t he inform the public of what is going on in the activities of this ghostly company? Why keep giving our money to a really lame duck?
