opinion | Larousse and the new Congregation of the Index

I learn that Larousse editions are preparing to publish The Scrabble Official by erasing about sixty words hitherto permitted, such as “bamboula”, “wimp”, “poufiasse”, “schleu”, “tarlouse”, “travelo” or “slut” (but not the masculine “salaud” and “salop “, men being able to take them), but which today incite “hate and discrimination”, according to the neo-puritan company which holds the rights to the game outside the United States.

Sometimes I still play Scrabble, and believe me, I’ll never consider this next one. Official. And I invite the associations of players and the latter themselves to do the same. Simply don’t buy it.

The prestigious publishing house founded by Pierre Larousse and Augustin Boyer should not stoop to publishing such a book. She can still change her mind, but if she persists and signs, she must know that her reputation will be tarnished. Personally, I will no longer buy anything that will be edited by her.
