[Opinion] Jean Charest takes bite

With the support of the candidate excluded from the race for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada (PCC), Patrick Brown, the former Liberal premier of Quebec Jean Charest takes the lead. Patrick Brown argues that Jean Charest remains the best opponent to fight the extremism of Pierre Poilievre.

In the aftermath, the co-chairman of Mr. Brown’s national campaign, John Reynolds, a strong supporter, announced his support for Jean Charest, who he says is the best choice to “unite the party and form a Conservative government. national,” he said in a letter. Mr. Reynolds says he is extremely worried about divisions within the CCP and deplores the vindictive tone used in some campaigns.

However, according to him, Jean Charest respects all the members, even those who do not agree with his positions. “We need to offer Canadians a united and inclusive Conservative Party with an experienced new leader,” and he therefore believes that Jean Charest is the best candidate. Also according to John Reynolds, the CCP will not be able to win the next federal election or beat the Liberals and form the next government if it is divided. He believes Jean Charest has the experience and credibility the party and Canadians need. The CCP needs “ambitious ideas and serious solutions, not just slogans calling for more freedom.”

Finally, Mr. Reynolds points out that Jean Charest is not afraid to tackle difficult questions. According to him, it’s time to give power back to the Conservative base, and “Jean Charest is the candidate who has the power to do it and who proposes to do it”.

Strengthened by this support, Jean Charest has just breathed new life into his campaign and has become a serious candidate in the race for the leadership of the PCC. It remains to be seen how Pierre Poilievre will react to this new scenario.
