Opinion – Duranceau inflexible regarding the needs of tenants

Bill 31 on housing lacks listening and vision.

The Minister responsible for Housing gives us the exclusive lesson of the interests of landlords, who have the right to choose their tenants.

However, it fails to put in place the rent register demanded by all, with the exception of landlords.

Skipping the lease between tenants was the only practical way to avoid abusive increases.

The creation of a public register of rents required for apartments would have made it possible to guarantee a reasonable evolution of the cost of rent, to the benefit of landlords and tenants. Therefore, the Minister would have been able to legitimately limit the right to transfer the lease.

Mme Duranceau only amplifies the housing crisis by weakening the ability of tenants to avoid abusive increases.

It eliminates part of the affordable housing rental stock in order to satisfy those who are already big winners in the lottery of wealth.

The rent register is not socialism, but an act of domestication of wild capitalism which aims at a fundamental good for all the citizens it should serve.
