The least we can say is that the departure from politics of the Member for Taschereau for Québec solidaire (QS), Catherine Dorion, will create a great void within the QS deputation, which is losing a politician outside standard, whose spontaneity and transparency have clearly contributed to giving it its letters of nobility. When Catherine Dorion spoke in the National Assembly or in front of the cameras, there was no question of using wooden language, her argument was unambiguous.
Catherine Dorion leaves politics, but be sure that politics will not completely leave her subjects of interest, which will surely manifest themselves where she was four years ago, either in her artistic career, without she stops campaigning for the social causes that are close to her heart.
In her “Love letter to the people of Taschereau” of more than ten minutes published on her Facebook page, Catherine Dorion declares that “we have won things in Quebec through all the tumult of the last few years, and we will not have to let go. And not just in the National Assembly, but in the streets too. And that’s what I want to do now. I want to be an activist in the field, in theaters and in bars, in books and through people, and I want to put all my time into it”. In this vein, the MNA for Taschereau encourages her constituents to take the leap into politics to advance progressive causes. “That’s exactly what it takes us in politics, big mouths who love freedom and who are not afraid to express their opinions,” she says.
Catherine Dorion may not have always been “in the lace”, but one thing is certain, she gave her point of view without embellishment or procrastination… Maybe that’s what “doing politics differently” is all about.
