Opinion – A magic bus

Baie-Saint-Paul, Gatineau, Montreal (Pierrefonds), Sainte-Brigitte-de-Laval and Sherbrooke. The floods come and go. However, the municipal council of Trois-Rivières, in a divided vote (7 against 6), continues the steps to carry out the industrial complex 40-55 which will destroy 12 hectares of wetlands. This type of construction, which aims to provide income from land, will certainly have serious economic consequences. It is true that these expenses related to natural disasters will be transferred to the Quebec government or absorbed by private insurers, as we have seen in recent events. However, in this debate, there is a feeling of deja vu. Of course ! 1997, episode 4 of the 4e show season The magic bus entitled “Against mud and swamp”.

In this episode, the City must debate whether to build a shopping center where the swamp is. Biodiversity arguments don’t matter, until a storm breaks out, a tree blocks the access of water to the swamp and suddenly the city floods. Fortunately, Bille-en-Tête and his magic bus manage to save the day.

I urge members of city council to re-watch this popular science television classic and wonder where they’ll find a magic bus when the flood hits.
