Operation Red Nose is back in the country on November 26, after being canceled last year due to the pandemic.
This year, the campaign will run until December 31 in Quebec under the theme “Back for your returns”. The organization announces the resumption of a “holiday season” allowing safe rides for impaired drivers, said Jean-Marie De Koninck, founding president of Operation Red Nose, at a press conference held Tuesday.
At the launch of the campaign, the organizers of Operation Red Nose unveiled the health measures that will be in effect for this 38e editing. Wearing a mask will be required in cars for customers and drivers. A customer register will also be kept.
Volunteers will be required to present a vaccination passport in the field, but clients will not. The organization did not want to add “an additional weight” to the escorts and considers that the sanitary measures in place are sufficient, underlined Marilyn Vigneault, director of communications.
The service will also be offered in Ontario and British Columbia. This year, the drive home campaign will not take place in New Brunswick, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, due to the health situation in these provinces.
In exchange for the escort service, motorists are invited to make a donation that will be paid to organizations dedicated to youth development and amateur sport.
