In the heart of the countryside, far from the prestigious opera houses of the big cities, the Gallo-Roman theatre of Sanxay (Vienne) is transformed into a unique stage where opera comes to life until August 14.
As part of the Soirées lyriques, 200 artists, musicians, singers and choirs take to the stage. Among them, young talents trained in Sanxay. They perform in front of 2,500 spectators, regulars and novices, all attracted by this collective adventure that has lasted for twenty-four years. Objective: democratize opera, create vocations and promote heritage.
“There are city operas, here we offer country opera.”
Dominique HummelPresident of the Sanxay Lyrical Evenings
This 24th edition celebrates the 100th anniversary of the death of Giacomo Puccini. On this occasion, his masterpiece Bohemia is performed outdoors. It is an experience that is both intimate and resonant in this rural setting, which makes the event unique and original. For the locals, it is an invaluable opportunity: “Without this event, I would never have been able to discover opera in my countryside. It’s fantastic, it makes opera accessible to everyone.”
The warm, almost family atmosphere is reinforced by the commitment of 250 local volunteers, who contribute to the success of this festival. And when the time comes for Mimi and Rodolphe, the heroes of Bohemiadeclare their love for each other, night has fallen on Sanxay, and the magic happens.
One more evening, August 14, 2024, to experience this opera “in the middle of the fields” at the Gallo-Roman theater of Sanxay. Ticket office.
