A judicial inquiry has been opened for “unintentional homicides and injuries” by the Toulon prosecutor’s office after the collapse of a building in Sanary-sur-Mer (Var) on December 7, indicates France Bleu Provence on Wednesday December 15. Three people were killed. The opening of this judicial information will in particular allow the relatives of the victims to become civil parties.

The prosecution also indicates that“abnormal overconsumption of gas” was noted on the GRDF readings on the night of the tragedy, that is to say on the night of Monday 6 December to Tuesday 7 December. “This peak in consumption was recorded between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m.”. The explosion took place around 3:40 a.m. that night.

According to information from France Bleu Provence, all avenues are being used including the suicide trail of one of the inhabitants. “The building’s gas network had been checked by GRDF at the beginning of October without any anomalies being observed” specifies the Toulon prosecutor’s office.

Hearings of relatives of victims are still ongoing.
