Modified business hours
Grocery stores, pharmacies, malls and convenience stores will remain open on Monday, May 22. This will also be the case for the branches of the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ), which will follow their usual schedule, as will those of the Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC), which are not affected by a strike action.
Canada Post offices will be closed on National Patriots Day. Collection and delivery of mail will therefore be interrupted.
Same thing for the banks, which will also be closed. Restaurants and bars will remain open.
Unavailability of government services
Federal government service outlets, such as Passport Canada, will be closed on Monday. Those of the Government of Quebec, such as the counters of the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), are also taking leave.
This is also the case for the City of Montreal’s permit counters – online applications are still possible – and the courtrooms of the Municipal Court, except for the appearance of inmates.
Waste collections will be carried out according to the usual schedule, and the ecocentres will remain open, except in Laval.
In Quebec, the collection of garbage and recyclable materials will also take place according to the usual schedule.
Public markets will remain open, as well as Space for Life facilities.
The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) will be closed, like every Monday. On the other hand, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC) and Pointe-à-Callière, in Montreal, as well as the Museum of Civilization, in Quebec, will be exceptionally open.
As for local sports and community facilities such as arenas, swimming pools and libraries, their schedules will vary from one borough to another in the metropolis, but several facilities, such as the Grande Bibliothèque (BAnQ), will close their doors.
Less frequent public transport
Public transport will remain active on Monday, but will follow modified transit times.
In Montreal, it will therefore be preferable to consult the STM website to check the schedules of the lines in real time.
In Quebec, buses will run according to the Sunday schedule and Couche-Tard service will not be available.
In Laval, Longueuil and Sherbrooke, transport companies will follow the weekend schedule.
