“A bizarre ballad in theunderground Montrealers”, this is how we present OPEN by the composer Lunice, also known as half of TNGHT, which he formed with the Scottish Hudson Mohawke. On his second solo album in six years, he doesn’t compromise: this stuff is indeed confusing, with its thundering rhythms (Red-Congowhat a bomb!) above all inspired by the trap adorned with experimental hyperpop discharges, all tied up to obtain maximum impact in a club. OPEN aspires us a little more with each new listening, familiar in its references, visionary in the sound experience it provides. A handful of guests, mostly local, stand out: Zach Zoya has never sounded so innovative as on last-timehis Montreal colleague Yuki Dreams Again playing in the same strange pop-R&B lands on the famous and catchy title track, the American friends Cali Cartier (amazing Walk), the female duo DAGR (winnebago) as well as Quebec composer DRTWRK (Kanye West, Lil Wayne) also contributing to this entertaining musical UFO.
