(Barrie) The funeral of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer who was killed last week is scheduled to take place this Wednesday at 11 a.m. at an arena in his hometown of Barrie, about 100 kilometers away north of Toronto.
The private ceremony for Constable Grzegorz Pierzchala, who was 28 years old, will take place at the Sadlon Arena.
Members of the officer’s family and their guests will be joined by Ontario Premier Doug Ford, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police, other police services and members of the Canadian Armed Forces, as well as other emergency service personnel and officials.
The funeral is not open to the public, but an in-person broadcast is expected to take place at Caledonia Lions Hall in Haldimand County, where Constable Pierzchala was based with the Ontario Provincial Police.
Grzegorz Pierzchala was a former constable in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario and he was also a member of the Armed Forces.
On December 27, he was killed in what police said was an ambush after responding to a call for a vehicle that had fallen into a ditch west of Hagersville, west of Hamilton.
Randall McKenzie, 25, and Brandi Crystal Lyn Stewart-Sperry, 30, each face first degree murder charges in connection with the officer’s death.
