Ontario | Quebec truck driver arrested for importing drugs

A Quebec trucker who presented himself on January 13 at an inspection station in Point Edward, Ontario, was arrested for having transported in his vehicle approximately 265 kilograms of illicit narcotics.

The news is reported Wednesday by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

Arshdeep Singh, a 23-year-old Quebec resident, faces a host of criminal charges, including importing methamphetamines and heroin and possessing them for the purpose of trafficking.

Arshdeep Singh, driving a commercial transport truck, reported to the RCMP at the primary inspection station on the Blue Water Bridge, which connects Point Edward and Port Huron, Michigan, about 60 kilometers north- east of Detroit.

The vehicle has undergone a secondary examination.

Border services officers then noticed large garbage bags and spare tires. Further inspection of these items enabled them to discover substances suspected of being suspected illicit narcotics.

Arshdeep Singh’s case is being handled by the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia.
