Ontario: he takes a ride on roller skates on the highway

An Ontarian had the strange idea on Sunday to whet his appetite before Easter dinner by roller-skating directly on a highway in Hamilton, Ontario.

A video posted by a motorist on Facebook shows the man moving briskly in the left lane, escorted by a police vehicle following him and a second blocking traffic in the right lane.

Another video relayed by the “Hamilton Spectator” shows the man skating before the arrival of the police on the dotted line separating the two lanes, while cars pass him on each side.

According to local media, the incident happened around 10 a.m. on the municipal Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway, which allows motorists to pass through Hamilton at speeds of 90 km/h.

“It was kind of surreal. People slowed down around him, but he continued on his way. Sometimes he seemed to taunt motorists,” a witness to the scene, Josh Lucrezi, told the “Spectator”.

Hamilton police confirmed to local media that they intervened with the man who was eventually arrested. The skater has a right to a basic course on the rules surrounding freeway access, but has not been charged.
