Onoma studio closes

The Montreal video game studio Onoma is closing its doors, only a few months after being acquired by the Swedish group Embracer.

The announcement was made Tuesday afternoon. In a press release sent from London, the European distributor announces that it is “focusing its future production capacities on its flagship studios, Crystal Dynamics and Eidos-Montreal”.

The closure of Onoma affects approximately 200 employees “who will be fully supported throughout this transition”, advances the Embracer group. The company says it wants, “as far as possible”, to place some of the laid-off employees in “open positions at Crystal Dynamics and Eidos-Montreal, but it recognizes that many colleagues” will have to find work “outside the group”. .

Square Enix Montreal, renamed Onoma three weeks ago, is one of the major players in the Montreal industry. Onoma has notably developed Hitman Go, Lara Croft Goand Two Ex Go.
