October 2 marks the start of a month of mobilization in the fight against breast cancer, known as Pink October. This disease affects more than 60,000 women and causes around 12,000 deaths per year. Prevention is therefore crucial, but only 48% of women concerned have a mammogram every two years.

The Mammobile, a bus which crosses the Orne department, offers women breast cancer screening. In France, almost one in two women affected by breast cancer prevention are not screened every two years: “It’s so complicated that we let it go a little. As I’m in good health, I let it go a little, yes. But it’s good that there is a reminder”explains a woman who came to have a mammogram in this prevention bus.

The mammogram only takes a few minutes. Around forty women showed up in the Mammobile that day. After having the mammogram, patients are seen by a doctor. Thanks to this bus, in two years, 11,000 women have been screened, or almost half of the department’s screenings. It has become an essential tool in the fight against breast cancer.
