Only one file remains to be settled at the Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens announced that they have extended the contracts of defender Nicolas Beaudin and forward Lucas Condotta on Thursday morning, so that there is only one file left to settle on the team’s management desk: that of Jesse Ylonen.

Beaudin agreed to a one-year, two-part pact, while Condotta agreed to a two-year, also two-part agreement.

These are deep moves for the Canadiens, since barring a huge surprise in training camp, Beaudin and Condotta will report to the Laval Rocket next season.

What role for Ylönen?

It will now be interesting to see what kind of deal Ylönen will sign.

Aged 23 – he will be 24 in October – Ylönen has still not been able to establish himself as a regular player in the NHL. Last season, he still took part in 37 games with the big club, a career high.

The team’s second-round pick in 2018, however, maintained solid offensive numbers in the American League, recording 32 points in 39 games last season.

The 2023-2024 season could be his last chance to prove to the Habs that he has what it takes to become a regular player in the best league in the world.
