Some Ukrainian soldiers have been fighting for more than two years. To escape the reality of war, many soldiers engage in online gambling, without the knowledge of their superiors. An officer returning from the front confirms this addiction. “Games are of great interest to the military, 9 out of 10 soldiers are consumers”reveals Ivan Zadontsev, officer of the Aidar battalion.
A scourge that worries the authorities
Ukrainian soldiers have easy access to online gambling. Via Starlink access, military personnel can easily connect. This scourge worries the authorities. A petition to denounce the dangers of online gambling has collected 26,000 signatures from Ukrainian soldiers. Volodymyr Zelenksy signed a new decree in recent days. From now on, online gambling for soldiers is prohibited. An awareness campaign on this addiction is planned as well as the blocking of illegal sites.
