Ongoing searches to find a child who fell into the Saint-Maurice River

Searches are underway to find a 4-year-old child who fell into the Saint-Maurice River, in Mauricie, on Sunday around 6 p.m.

Two children were playing on the edge of the water near rue Zéphirin-Doucet in Grandes-Piles, when one of the two fell into the river in an area where there is little current, according to the police.

The search is being carried out by the fire department, patrol officers and the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) helicopter, as well as citizens who have volunteered.

“All efforts are being made on the ground to locate him as quickly as possible,” added Sergeant Stéphane Tremblay of the SQ.

Research continues both on the water and on the banks.
