OnePlus 13R Unveils New Design and Pricing Adjustments

OnePlus has unveiled the OnePlus 13R alongside the OnePlus 13, distinguishing it from the OnePlus Ace 5 despite initial misconceptions. Featuring Gorilla Glass 7i and an aluminum frame, it comes in Astral Trail and Nebula Black colors. Powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, the device offers significant gaming enhancements and runs OxygenOS 15. Its triple-camera system includes a Sony LYT-700 sensor and a 6000 mAh battery. Priced at 769 euros, pre-orders are available ahead of the January 14 shipping date.

Introducing the OnePlus 13R

Alongside the much-anticipated OnePlus 13, the renowned Chinese brand has also launched the OnePlus 13R. Until now, details regarding this model were sparse.

Initially, there was a misconception that the OnePlus 13R was merely a rebranding of the recently unveiled OnePlus Ace 5 in China, but that assumption proved to be incorrect.

While both models share a similar design and are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, their similarities end there.

Striking Design and Display

The OnePlus 13R marks a significant milestone as the first device from the brand to incorporate Gorilla Glass 7i, an advanced version of the original Gorilla Glass Victus seen in premium models. Its frame is elegantly crafted from aluminum.

Available in two stunning colors, Astral Trail—a sleek silver inspired by celestial bodies—and Nebula Black—a profound black reminiscent of the night sky, this smartphone is visually appealing.

In terms of dimensions, it closely resembles the OnePlus 12R, gaining a slight increase in width while losing a bit in height and thickness. The weight remains similar at 206 grams.

However, in terms of physical design, it represents a revolution. The device boasts a flat screen, back, and edges, akin to holding an iPhone 16 Plus. The rear camera module protrudes slightly from the edge, mirroring the OnePlus 13, providing a lightweight feel and a polished finish.

The 6.78-inch display features a resolution of 1.5K (2780 x 1264 pixels) and includes a 16-megapixel front-facing camera. Furthermore, it is TÜV Rheinland Eye Care 4.0 certified, ensuring optimal eye comfort. The RadiantView technology dynamically adjusts brightness according to ambient lighting conditions, enhancing user experience.

Additionally, the screen supports dynamic refresh rates of up to 120 Hz, adjustable from 1 to 120 (LTPO), ensuring fluid visuals.

Unmatched Performance and Software

At the heart of the OnePlus 13R lies the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, a leading-edge chip for 2024 that guarantees impressive performance. It comes with 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

This device is the first smartphone to introduce the OnePlus CPU Scheduler, a feature that enhances gaming performance in titles such as BGMI and Genshin Impact by optimizing chip-level processing.

Running on OxygenOS 15, built on Android 15, the OnePlus 13R is set to receive four years of major software updates and six years of security updates, showcasing a significant upgrade over its predecessor.

The OxygenOS interface is user-friendly and packed with new features this year, including improved space optimization and some exciting artificial intelligence enhancements, although not all are yet available in French.

Advanced Camera Capabilities

The OnePlus 13R showcases a sophisticated triple-lens camera system at the rear.

Leading the trio is the latest Sony LYT-700 sensor, which excels in light capture compared to the IMX-890 sensor found in the OnePlus 12R. Complementing this is an 8 MP ultra-wide lens, identical to the one on the OnePlus 12R.

Finally, OnePlus has opted for a 50-megapixel sensor (S5KJN5) paired with a telephoto lens featuring 2x optical zoom instead of a macro lens. This configuration utilizes advanced algorithms to deliver sharp images, even at zoom levels exceeding 4x.

A novel double exposure algorithm enables the camera to function in two modes simultaneously: a short exposure mode for capturing sharp outlines and a long exposure mode for enhanced light and color details.

Impressive Battery Life and Pricing

Powered by a robust 6000 mAh battery, the OnePlus 13R promises to support streaming an entire season of your favorite series on a single charge, according to OnePlus. With its fast charging technology, it can recharge from 1% to 100% in just 52 minutes using 80 Watts charging, though the power adapter is sold separately.

Currently available for pre-order, the OnePlus 13R is set to begin shipping on January 14. It comes in one configuration, featuring 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, priced at 769 euros—a 70-euro increase compared to the previous generation.
