Saturday June 29, a march was organized in Nanterre, in Hauts-de-Seine, where young Nahel, 17, died a year ago. The demonstrators came to demand justice and denounce police violence.

The emotion of a collapsed mother can still be seen on Mounia’s face, Saturday June 29. A year after the death of her 17-year-old son, Nahel, she was at the head of the procession in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine) which paid tribute to him. “When I go home, I have no one left. I no longer have my baby. When I wake up in the morning, he has his son who will say hello to him, he will kiss his son. Who am I kissing? I look at my son’s room. It’s empty, it’s right in front of me. This is too hard for me” she confided, moved, referring to the police officer who fired the fatal shot.

The demonstrators are demanding justice, but also a change in police doctrine, particularly in working-class neighborhoods. “In Nahel’s story, without a camera, we believe the police’s version. (…) We have to stop all this, it’s extremely important. You can’t kill our children like that.“, demands the mother of a victim of police violence.
