One year ago today, a fire ravaged a heritage building in Old Montreal, leaving seven dead and nine injured.

Families of the victims and residents of the area are commemorating the first and sad anniversary of the tragedy on Saturday.
On March 16, 2023, seven lives were lost following a fire in the building, which housed short-term rental units available on the Airbnb platform.
A year later, the owner of the building still refuses to explain himself to the media, the one who is the subject of a $22 million class action brought by the family of a victim against the man business and the multinational Airbnb.

A criminal investigation was opened by the SPVM since the theory of an accident was ruled out.
The Bureau of Investigation revealed last fall that several police blunders complicated the investigation carried out by the major crimes division of the Montreal police force.
Remember that the fire at the heritage building is the deadliest in the last 48 years in the metropolis.
