(Washington) Former US President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced he would hold a press conference on January 6, the first anniversary of the assault on Capitol Hill by his supporters.
In a statement, the Republican billionaire said he would discuss the November 2020 presidential election from Mar-a-Lago, Florida, repeating – unfounded – that it was stolen from him.
Attack the commission of inquiry
The ex-president criticized the parliamentary commission in charge of the investigation into this attack which shocked the United States and the world, by accusing it of being “extremely biased”.
Rather, it should investigate “the fraudulent presidential election of 2020,” he said.
“I will hold a press conference on January 6 in Mar-a-Lago to discuss all of these and other points,” Mr. Trump said.
“In the meantime, remember that the insurgency took place on November 3,” the day of the presidential election, he said.
Donald Trump, who lost the 2020 election by more than seven million votes to Democrat Joe Biden, has hinted in recent months that he could run for another term in 2024.
The parliamentary committee he denounces seeks to shed light on the events of January 6, 2021, when thousands of Donald Trump supporters invaded the seat of the United States Congress to try to prevent elected officials from certifying the victory of Joe Biden in the presidential election.
The former real estate mogul is trying by all means to prevent this commission from getting too close and getting hold of documents that could incriminate him. It multiplies the legal remedies, for the moment unsuccessful.
