One of the two pedestrians mowed down in Côte-des-Neiges succumbed to her injuries

One of the two women hit by the driver of a van in the borough of Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce early Tuesday afternoon finally succumbed to her injuries. The other is still in hospital, but there is no fear for his life.

The collision occurred around 1:05 p.m. at the corner of Bourret Avenue and McLynn Avenue, in a residential area of Côte-des-Neiges. The driver of the van was moving on Bourret Avenue from west to east. For some unknown reason, she would have hit a car parked on the edge before mowing down the pedestrians.

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) confirmed at the start of the evening that one of them, a 55-year-old woman, ultimately died of her injuries. The second woman, aged 58, was injured in the upper body, but there are no fears for her life.

The driver, a 64-year-old woman, was also taken to the hospital to treat a “state of shock”, specifies the SPVM.

The perimeter has been lifted, but SPVM investigators are continuing their work to establish the circumstances of the accident. The intersection, which is equipped with stops, has no markings on the ground to facilitate pedestrian crossing.

The number of pedestrians struck by vehicles is on the rise in Montreal. According to SPVM data, 20 pedestrians were killed and 66 seriously injured on the island in 2022. This is significantly more than the 11 deaths and 40 serious injuries recorded the previous year.
