National Education staff declare for half of them “a high sense of burnout”, according to the results of the ministry’s first barometer of well-being at work unveiled on Wednesday 19 October. This barometer was conducted for the first time in the spring of 2022, with 62,000 National Education staff (teachers, management staff, senior education advisers, psychologists, etc.) working in schools and educational establishments.
His goal is to “monitoring and understanding the evolution of the quality of life at work of staff” and “will be renewed at regular intervals” by the statistics agency of the Ministry of Education (Depp). According to this barometer, staff generally report a high feeling of exhaustion. On a scale of 0 to 10, they declare that the feeling of exhaustion rises to an average level of 6.8 out of 10. Half attribute a score between 8 and 10 out of 10. Staff working in schools express a feeling of exhaustion at a higher average level than in the second degree (7.1 against 6.6 out of 10).
More generally, the professional satisfaction of the teachers questioned is lower than the average of French people who work: on a scale of 0 to 10, they attribute an average score of 6.0 to assess their satisfaction with their work in general, against 7. .2 for all employed French people.

On the other hand, staff satisfaction with the life they currently lead is at a level equivalent to that observed among French people as a whole and among those with at least a baccalaureate +3: 6.5 out of 10 compared to 6 respectively, 8 and 7.2 out of 10. However, they are generally dissatisfied with their career prospects. Their level of satisfaction in this area is estimated at an average of 3.1 out of 10 and 61% of staff assign a very low rating, between 0 and 3 out of 10.
On the remuneration side, they give an average score of 3.4 out of 10. 55% of them express strong dissatisfaction, choosing a score between 0 and 3 out of 10. Another note from Depp, also published on Wednesday, mentions the number of hours worked in National Education. According to her, the median working time for teachers is 43 hours a week, three hours more than other A-level executives in the state civil service.
