One in seven adolescents are at serious risk of depression. This is the result of a national survey carried out on nearly 10,000 secondary school students between 2018 and 2022. In detail, 14% middle school students and 15% high school students are affected. The trend is much more marked among young girls, both in terms of mental health and overall feeling of ill-being. The risk of depression is three times higher among girls in middle school, and twice as high in high school. As for suicidal thoughts, they increased by seven points among girls and four among boys.
An increase from the Covid-19 period

Child psychiatrist Karine De Leusse indicates that it is necessary “already notice when it started” while looking for the “signs” of this discomfort. The authors of the survey specify that the emotional instability of adolescents began to increase from the Covid-19 period.
