The situation of migratory species worries the international community. A UN report, published Monday February 12, warns.

The report is new, the findings alarming and the figures ever more worrying. One in five migratory species is threatened with extinction. 44% even see their population decline. And almost all of the 58 species of fish are affected. “The migratory phenomenon itself is in danger, because there are barriers, and the habitats these animals need may be under pressure“, defends Amy Fraenkel, executive secretary of the Convention on Migratory Species.

Human activities called into question

Species directly threatened, according to the Convention, by human activities. Intensive agriculture, hunting, fishing and even climate change are particularly singled out. And the list of threatened animals is far from exhaustive according to the report, since 400 other species are not yet listed.
