“One euro is a meal, four euros is a hygiene kit, ten euros are thirty survival blankets”, says Adriana Karembeu

We must explain what we do with the money collected“, estimates this Saturday on franceinfo the ambassador of the French Red Cross Adriana Karembeu while the association launches its “national days” of quest. “You will see volunteers at every red light, in every town and village“, she enthuses. “It is for local actions, food aid, marauding, support for the elderly.

franceinfo: What are these “National Days” of the French Red Cross?

This year is the first time that there has been this launch of the national quest in Paris, Dijon, Rennes and Nice. There are exchanges between our volunteers and the donors and a lot of animations to explain what we do with the money collected. One euro is a meal, four euros is a hygiene kit, ten euros is thirty survival blankets, 60 euros is training in life-saving techniques. It’s concrete and you have to know that when people give at the bottom of their homes, it’s for local actions at the bottom of their homes. Food aid, clothing, marauding, support for the elderly, isolated, disabled… It’s not just that in the four big cities, you can donate everywhere! You will see volunteers at every red light, in every city and town.

Is it particularly important at the moment with the purchasing power crisis?

Yes, we truly live in uncertain times. I remember the crisis of 2008… It was starting to get complicated, but now it goes beyond everything! Today, the Red Cross welcomes people we had never seen. They are fathers and mothers, who have a job but who cannot get by. Students are also part of these new faces. We think very little about them, it’s very hard for them who don’t have the means and who don’t manage to get by if their parents can’t help them. And then, you also have to think about the people who lose their shelter. It’s something that can happen to anyone. We must not forget them. You have to go see them.

How to make a donation ?

So there are volunteers behind the red lights, there are stamp books on sale at 13.6 euros at La Poste and for which two euros are donated to La Croix-Rouge. In addition, it is possible to donate throughout the year on the site crois-rouge.fr or by SMS by sending five euros with the word “DON” to 92200. It works very well! If you want, you always find a way. We even created the bonjour.croix-rouge.fr system for people who want to give their time and energy. It matters a lot!
