There were 4,100 of them at the start of the Haut Giffre Ultra Trail this Friday, June 14. A departure already postponed due to weather conditions. The current races were canceled early this Saturday, June 15 due to accidents in the night between three and four in the morning. Three riders fell, including one who lost his life and two who were seriously injured.

According to the Haute-Savoie prefecture, the organizers called public emergency services with the intervention of high mountain rescue and firefighters given the seriousness of the situation. The weather conditions made the intervention complicated. As helicopters could not take off, the injured began to be evacuated by land.

At the end of the morning, one of the rescue helicopters managed to take off and evacuate one of the seriously injured victims to the Annecy hospital center. Around ten runners were slightly injured, notably hypothermia linked to the cold during the race.

Rescue operations are still underway.
