A teenager lost his life and another was still missing Thursday morning after four young people fell into the Rideau River, south of Ottawa, shortly before midnight Wednesday evening.
Police said emergency crews responded near Nicolls Island Road at 11:44 p.m. after a call reporting four teenagers falling into the river.
Two of the boys were immediately pulled from the water and taken to hospital by paramedics while two teenagers aged 16 and 17 were reported missing. Police divers later found the body of one of them.
The search for the second boy was suspended overnight and resumed Thursday morning.
Police said the rescue operation, carried out in very difficult conditions, included a surface and water search.
