Covid-19 is back in force. In China, 9 million people have been confined to Changchundue to a spike in cases. The rebound of the epidemic in France is also attracting attention. The 20 Hours returns to the epidemic situation in several countries, in a new episode of its column “One day in the world”.

In China, screening is compulsory for the entire population. The city of Changchunin the northeast of the country, is completely confined. The streets are deserted and the offices closed: the 9 million inhabitants are prohibited from leaving their homes. AT Shanghaischools are closed and endless queues form to be tested. In the city of Hong Kong, the fifth wave of Covid-19 overcrowds hospitals and morgues: 2,000 people died in two months.

In the United States, several states have ended the wearing of masks and the vaccination pass. In New York, the Mayor, Eric Adams, takes to the streets to lead by example. In Brazil, Rio de Janeiro is the first city in the country to remove the mask, even indoors. Finally, in France, the fifth wave is not over. The end of the mandatory mask indoors is however scheduled for Monday, March 14.
