One adult and four minors suspected of terrorist plans indicted

Living in Hauts-de-France, one of the individuals arrested planned to “commit an attack in his high school during the end-of-year party or alternatively to wage jihad within the terrorist organization Islamic State”, according to the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office.

They are in the sights of justice. Aged between 14 and 20, five individuals suspected of terrorist plans have been indicted, the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (Pnat) told France Télévisions on Saturday, July 13, confirming information from BFM Paris. Three of them, aged 16, 17 and 20, have been placed in pretrial detention. The 14-year-old has been placed under judicial supervision.

Investigation “preliminary charge of participation in a terrorist criminal association with a view to preparing one or more crimes”was opened on May 17, the source said. In the days following the opening of the investigations, “entrusted to the general directorate of internal security”, “a 17-year-old young man living in Hauts-de-France” was arrested, taken into custody and then charged with criminal terrorist association. According to the Pnat, the investigation revealed “serious and consistent evidence” illustrating “his desire to commit an attack in his high school during the end-of-year party or alternatively to wage jihad within the terrorist organization Islamic State”.

After this indictment, “Four other people, aged 14, 16, 17 and 20, were arrested” for their involvement in an online discussion group. All seemed “sharing the same terrorist ideology and the willingness to join a terrorist organization”adds the anti-terrorism prosecution, which specifies that “The 14-year-old was placed under judicial supervision while the other three were placed in pre-trial detention.”One of them was indicted. “current June 2024” and the “three final police custody cases took place this week and resulted in referrals on July 11 and 12, 2024”.
