Let’s first acknowledge the tremendous work of the Black Tiger Sex Machine trio (Patrick Barry, Marc-André Chagnon and Julien Maranda), musicians and entrepreneurs at the head of the Kannibalen Records label who, after more than a decade of effort, have taken root on the major festival circuit — the band headlined the Bonnaroo Music Arts Festival in June. Let’s also recognize that over the years, the trio has sought to explore other facets of electronic dance music, a label affixed to clumsy, hard-hitting and eye-catching electro derived from dubstep, including one of its greatest ambassadors, Skrillex. , ended up walking away, probably out of weariness. This third album? The same proven recipe, between big beat, house and big noisy bass, embellished with not always happy pop refrains (the overdose of testosterone on Sleepwalker). The “brostep” collaboration with Montreal MC Wasiu (Prayers) remains one of the highlights of this album, which further chews on a classic Jamaican riddim (take a ride) with the help of Italian singer Alborosie.
