On TikTok, the American Jimmy Darts tests the generosity of passers-by and makes millions of views

On TikTok, where there are mainly choreographies, Jimmy Darts, a 26-year-old American, only offers videos to promote donation, free, mutual aid. And the process has made him a star in less than a year: more than 200 million cumulative views and eight million subscribers who watch him daily challenge himself in the street. More or less comical challenges, such as finding someone who agrees to let him sit in his car to enjoy the air conditioning in the middle of a heat wave, or finding a resident who is willing to reheat his lunch in the microwave.

Most people send him packing, even insult him, a man even sprinkles him with tear gas. But, there is always, at the end, someone, man or woman, who opens his door, without hesitation. And everyone in the comments wondering what they would have done in the same situation: “Would I have opened my door, or not?” This is where his videos take on another dimension since for “be generous with the generous“, Jimmy Darts gives money to the Good Samaritans, 500 dollars, sometimes 1,000 dollars, which anonymous donors all have the reflex to refuse, without exception, before accepting when they learn that the money comes from a kitty dedicated.

Initially, this money came only from the wallet of Jimmy Darts, and then the subscribers created micro-cagnottes themselves. The gift leads to the gift. In any case, sharing is learned, this is what the TikTokeur explains in one of his videos: “Qwhen i was littlehe said, every time our parents gave us a sum of money, for Christmas or a birthday, they told us that half was for us, and the other half was to give away. I have always applied this principle, just for a year, I decided to film it.”

He begins by giving the floor to the homeless to have them tell their story, their journey, and, quickly, he realizes that after each video uploaded, his subscribers are mobilizing, sending money, until $20,000, for example, collected in 24 hours for a homeless man in Miami. Do you have to be moved to give? Jimmy Darts hopes to break this idea, and show that it’s not, that it’s a question of relating to others, and above all that it shouldn’t have a price.
