Sanction “financially” families “from the first bullshit”, this is what the President of the Republic slipped to the police during a night visit to the police on Monday evening July 3, without anyone knowing what Emmanuel Macron means exactly. A measure that has long been worn by the right and the far right. And the two camps which have been engaged for a few days in an escalation of repressive proposals.

>> “We have to look for the discomfort elsewhere”: the financial sanctions “from the first bullshit” against the families of rioters go badly in working-class neighborhoods

The first: abolish family allowances for the parents of young delinquents. This is an emblematic measure of the right that Eric Ciotti, the president of the Republicans (LR) party, comes out of his bag. He had made him vote a few years ago for the young absentees who no longer followed their courses.

The idea is also supported by the National Rally (RN), which claims the paternity of the measure. “From the moment you have repeat offenders, you have to remove, or at least suspend, the allowances of parents who obviously do not respect the Civil Code. There is an obligation for parental authority to exercise over minors”recalls Jean-Philippe Tanguy, deputy National Rally of the Somme and deputy president of the RN group in the National Assembly.

“You will go to jail”

The RN also proposes to remove the minority excuse for those under 18. A measure that is also found at Les Républicains, in the bill tabled on Tuesday July 4 by Senator Stéphane Le Rudulier. “A minor under the age of 16 will be considered an adult.he explains. We must make minors aged 16-17 aware that the penal response will be firm. You will go to jail.” Its text also provides for the return of minimum sentences for those who attack the police, but also elected officials.

And then when we talk about insecurity, the RN, like a good part of the LRs, respond: immigration control. Éric Ciotti goes so far as to relaunch the idea of a loss of nationality for dual nationals.
