In Ukraine, the France 2 teams accompanied a father and his son to the eastern front. They left together, while the rest of the family lives every hour that passes in anguish.
Ukrainian armor hidden on the front line, and troops breakfast during a lull. Side by side, a son and his father have been fighting together for six months now. On the first day of the Russian invasion, the father, an engineer, asked to join his son in the brigade to which he was assigned. “I’m not afraid for my life, not at all. But my son must stay alive, in good health. If I stay with him, I tell myself that he will see his mother again when all this is over”testifies Roman, 48 years old.
These two soldiers are gunners. They fight on a Soviet-era cannon. They’ve been sleeping in this howitzer since the beginning of the war. In the middle of the ammunition, in the promiscuity of the cockpit, two floor mats have been laid out. “He is always there, next to me, and I know that if something happens, he will help me. I feel strong, because for me he is the dearest human being in the world. It is very important let him be there”explains Denys, 25 years old.
