The ongoing Russian offensive in the Kharkiv region is forcing Ukrainian soldiers to adapt and abandon some of their positions. In Vovchansk, the fighting was incessant and the soldiers had to “slalom between the shells”.

The battle of Vovchansk continues to rage on Sunday May 19 in Ukraine. Ukrainian soldiers are progressing with difficulty in the suburbs of the city, where Russian assaults continue. To reach their rear base, a group of soldiers must rush across the field for 15 long minutes, in the open. Russian drones pass overhead. Then they finally arrive in the woods.

They returned the previous night from Vovchansk. “There was some very close combat in the city, and our guys are still in that area. There’s a lot of shooting“, testifies Igor, M113 armored personnel carrier pilot. “On the ground, we literally have to slalom between mortar shells.” adds Vitaly. Faced with this Russian push, the Ukrainians sometimes have no other choice but to retreat. On the base, drones and hover bombs strike regularly.
