On the forecourt of Montpellier town hall, a beach volleyball court hosts an international tournament

The effervescence gradually rises on the forecourt of the town hall of Montpellier. 390 tons of sand on a plot of 20 meters in length and 10 in width were distributed over several days in front of the town hall in order to build a beach volleyball court. Because the Beach Pro Tour is stopping for the fifth time in Montpellier, this time on this forecourt after passing through the Parc de la Rauze, training grounds for Montpellier Beach Volleyball.

It’s original !

A total of 250 professional and amateur players will compete over four days. Among them, eighty players come from Bolivia, the Netherlands, Switzerland and elsewhere. This is the fifth time that the Beach Pro Tour has stopped in Montpellier, but this is a first on this large, uncrowded forecourt. “_It’s a change, it’s original to host a site like that” recognizes Jules, who had not yet seen this installation.

See beyond the tournament

To build it, the sand was transported by truck. At the end of this tournament, this sand will be transposed to the Parc de la Rauze, located in the Aiguerelles district. History of combining an eco-responsible dimension with the sporting dimension. “We see beyond the tournament” confirms Stéphane Canet, director of the tournament in Montpellier. “The goal is to make other people benefit from this sand that we wanted to keep”.

Accessible to everyone

Because if there is one sport that you can practice anywhere as long as there is a strip of sand, it is beach volleyball. “It is accessible to all, for girls, boys, families. All you need is a jersey, shorts and a ball!“smiles Stéphane Canet, pointing to the pitch set up in front of the town hall. Can’t wait for the competition to begin.
