Designer Ruth E. Carter, the first African-American to win the Oscar for Best Costume Design in 2019 thanks to her work for Black Pantherpresents his colorful works at the Taubman Museum of Art in Roanoke, in the American state of Virginia.

Visitors have until April 3 to admire the more than 60 costumes in the exhibition Afrofuturism in Costume Designspanning nearly four decades of working with directors such as Spike Lee and Steven Spielberg.

Carter said he feels “increased influence” since winning the Oscars, but feels more integration efforts need to be made within the film industry. “It’s not something that can be erased overnight.”
