“On international news there is nothing wrong with the speech of the President of the Republic”, conceded Wednesday, October 10 on franceinfo Jean-Louis Thiériot, deputy Les Républicains of the 3rd district of Seine-et-Marne and vice-president of the Commission for national defense and the armed forces. He was reacting to Emmanuel Macron’s statements on France 2 to deliver anti-aircraft defense systems to Ukraine.

For him, there is no doubt: “Of course we have to help Ukraine”. What he questions, however, is France’s ability to do so militarily: “The reality is that France has been wrong for 25 years by investing too little in its defense”.

“Today we still have an extremely limited stock and I believe that we are objectively doing the maximum.”

Jean-Louis Thiériot explains: “We have eight mamba batteries and about twenty rattlesnake batteries”. Starting from this contast, the chosen one explains that “France cannot empty its arsenals because no one knows what tomorrow will bring to the front”. He thus considers that Emmanuel Macron’s decision is “balanced”.

On the other hand, the MP is less enthusiastic about the statements of the Head of State on the fact of building more independence, of protecting our vulnerabilities and on the fact of having to do it with a European approach: “I have nothing against it, but the reality is that to build something in Europe, everyone around the table has to be ready to do it. […] Let us be careful that a symbolic objective does not deprive us of efficiency”.
